Steel Bridge Re-Opens to MAX and Autos August 25

Light rail construction on the Steel Bridge is complete, and the bridge has re-opened to MAX and auto traffic as of Monday, August 25, 2008. Buses will return to the bridge August 31.

The completed bridge work includes:

  • Rail tie-in work connected existing MAX tracks with new tracks for the I-205/Portland Mall Light Rail project on 5th and 6th avenues.
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of the overhead wires that power MAX.
  • Replacement of existing rail expansion joints and new asphalt paving.
  • Permanent repairs to the approach structure on the east side of the bridge.

Traffic changes affect cars, cyclists and pedestrians

Changes to vehicle lanes and signals also took effect Monday. The lower deck remains the optimal route for cyclists and pedestrians. Learn more

Buses return to the Steel Bridge August 31

TriMet Bus Lines 4-Fessenden, 8-NE 15th Ave, 10-NE 33rd Ave, 33-Fremont, 35-Greeley, 44-Mocks Crest and 77-Broadway/Halsey will resume their regular routes over the Steel Bridge on Sunday, August 31. Learn more
