School Field Trips on TriMet

Bringing a group? Here's what you need to know.

You can bring a group of up to 40 people on the bus and up to 80 people on MAX Light Rail. (Sorry, we cannot schedule field trips on WES Commuter Rail at this time.) For all groups of 15 or more, please contact us to schedule your trip at least three weeks in advance.

You can pay with regular TriMet tickets or passes on the day of the trip, or take advantage of our discounted Class Pass fare for groups of 15 or more.

Class Pass discount for groups of 15 or more

If your group has 15 or more people, you can order a discounted Class Pass (pre-payment required) for just $1 per person round trip, including students, teachers and chaperones.

To receive the Class Pass discount, you must return a Field Trip Request Form (see below) to TriMet Customer Service at the address below along with your payment, at least two weeks prior to your trip. We'll send you a Class Pass and a customized trip itinerary by mail.

Cancellation policy

If your plans change, we will gladly reschedule your trip for another day at no charge.

  • Please call TriMet at least one day in advance to cancel your trip.
  • If you need to reschedule your trip, please notify TriMet at least two weeks in advance, if possible.
  • Sorry, we are not able to offer refunds for the Class Pass.

Have a safe trip

Please keep your students in sight and near you at all times. To make your trip a safe and enjoyable experience for all, please share the following riding tips with your students and chaperones:

  • Your group is sharing the bus or MAX train with other passengers—please be quiet and respectful of them.
  • While students may cross the street in front of a school bus that is stopped and has flashing red lights, they should never cross in front of a TriMet bus—unless it is stopped at a traffic light.
  • Cross MAX tracks only at designated pedestrian crossings. MAX trains are very quiet, so always listen carefully and look both ways before crossing the tracks.
  • Don't run on MAX station platforms, and stand back from the platform edge as trains approach.
  • Never play on or near train tracks. Remember, trains cannot stop quickly or steer around you!
