A New Look for TriMet Tickets and Passes

Fares are easier to read, easier to use

Image of new TriMet ticket design We've introduced new fares that are easier to use:

  • All tickets and passes are credit-card size, so they're easier to read, convenient to carry and easy to insert into fareboxes and validators.
  • Expiration time and zone information are printed in a consistent location on all fares. (Single tickets come pre-validated.)
  • Advanced security features help prevent fraud.

Plus, these tickets are less likely to jam a farebox on the bus or cause a vending machine malfunction. Not only is this better for riders, it reduces our maintenance costs. The larger size is helpful for bus operators and fare inspectors when checking for valid fare.

  • If you buy unvalidated tickets in packs of 10, please note that the new tickets can only be validated in one direction. Insert the ticket face-up into the validator in the direction of the arrow. A notch in the upper left corner helps ensure correct validation.

Yes. We encourage you to use up your old (narrow) tickets, such as All-Day Tickets and book tickets.

How do I validate my old tickets?

Carefully. You'll notice that validators have been modified to accept the wider tickets. In order to validate a narrow ticket correctly, you must align it in the slot as indicated. Use the graphic on the front of the validator as a guide.

We expect these improvements will speed up boarding on buses, reduce technical problems and help prevent fare evasion. We're also upgrading our older ticket machines to reduce breakdowns.
