The station is located on SW Knight Blvd. at the Oregon Zoo. This station is in Zone 1.
The above-ground part of the station features an open central plaza where visitors can stop and rest or wait for friends. Large basalt columns provide informal seating and four tall incense cedars mark the entrances to the plaza. Thirty-five-foot-high towers at each end of the plaza contain elevators and other equipment. The towers are finished with basalt stone similar to that used in the nearby Washington Park reservoirs.
Washington Park Station is the only stop in the 3-mile-long light rail tunnels through Portland's West Hills. At 260 feet underground, it is the deepest transit station in North America, and the second-deepest in the world. Passengers travel from the underground platform to the surface in four high-speed elevators. Each elevator can comfortably carry up to 39 people from platform to street level in about 20 seconds.
