TriMet fare increase takes effect Jan. 1
TriMet fares will increase 15-cents a ride, starting January 1, 2006 to help offset higher diesel prices.
Rising oil costs over the last 16 months created a $4.4 million deficit to TriMet's budget. This shortfall is expected to top $4.6 million by December 31, 2005.
Fare increase
The January 1, 2006 fare increase includes:
- 15-cent fare increase for regular adult cash fares; $6 increase for monthly passes
- 10-cent fare increase for Youth/Student and Honored Citizen cash fares; $2 increase for monthly passes
- A new 7-day rolling pass is being introduced by TriMet to offset the impact of the fare increase. It provides the convenience and savings of a monthly pass, but allows a rider to purchase it in smaller increments. The new rolling pass will be available starting Jan.1.
