TriMet seeks to extend construction hours for I-205/Portland Mall Light Rail project

Hearing to amend noise variance moved to July 18th

TriMet received a noise variance from the city of Portland to allow evening and weekend construction work along the Portland Mall. TriMet is seeking an addendum to this variance to allow for evening and weekend construction along I-205 between Gateway and Crystal Springs Blvd from July 2007 to May 2008. The hearing originally scheduled for June 13th has been rescheduled for July 18th. Currently, construction occurs between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays. The night and weekend work will reduce the impact of light rail and bridge construction work on traffic in the I-205 area.

The work sites covered by this variance are along I-205

  • Glisan to Burnside streets
  • Stark & Washington streets
  • Powell Blvd · Harold St
  • Foster & Woodstock roads
  • Springwater Corridor Trail
  • Flavel St
  • 92nd Ave & Crystal Springs Blvd

Public meeting notice

TriMet and its contractor, South Corridor Constructors (a joint venture of Stacy and Witbeck, Granite Construction and Wildish) will work with the city to mitigate the effects of construction noise.

I-205 MAX construction highlights:

  • Bridge construction began in early 2007 and will finish in 2008; station and track construction will begin in 2008
  • Business access will remain open during business hours
  • TriMet will give nearby businesses and residents advance notice of night work
