TriMet fare increase proposed

TriMet today proposed a five-cent fare increase on most bus and MAX fares to help cover the cost of inflation. If approved by the TriMet Board of Directors, the increase would take effect September 1, 2007.

Proposed fare increase – cash fares

  • 2-Zone cash fare would increase 5 cents to $1.75
  • All-Zone cash fare would increase 5 cents to $2.05
  • Youth/Student cash fare would increase 5 cents to $1.40
  • LIFT cash fare would increase 5 cents to $1.70
  • Honored Citizen cash fares remain unchanged. Honored Citizens include seniors 65 years of age and older, people on Medicare and people who have a disability.

Proposed fare increase – monthly passes

  • 2-Zone and All-Zone monthly passes would increase $2.00
  • Youth/Student monthly passes would increase $1.00
  • LIFT monthly passes would increase $2.00

TriMet typically increases fares by a nickel every September to help keep pace with inflation.

The TriMet Board of Directors is set to vote on the proposed fare increase at its June 27th meeting. The meeting will take place at the Sunnybrook Service Center at 9101 SE Sunnybrook Blvd in Clackamas County at 9 a.m.
