Washington County Commuter Rail construction to close Lombard Ave in Beaverton

Work begins Sept. 18

Construction on the Washington County Commuter Rail will close SW Lombard Ave. between SW Broadway St. and Canyon Rd. for about two months beginning Sept. 18. Crews will construct a 2,000-foot spur track and realign Lombard from Farmington Rd. to the Beaverton Transit Center.

Lombard Ave realignment

  • Between Sept. 18 and mid-Nov., Lombard will be closed between SW Broadway St. and SW Canyon Rd.

  • Between Oct. 4 and mid-Nov., Lombard will be closed between SW Farmington Rd. and SW Broadway St.

  • Traffic will be detoured around the construction zone and signs will direct motorists and pedestrians to alternate routes during the closure.

  • The realignment project is a partnership between TriMet and Washington County, through its Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program.

Work includes the demolition of existing Lombard Ave., relocating and installing utilities and paving. The Lombard realignment is scheduled to be completed by early fall.

About the project

Washington County Commuter Rail will use existing freight tracks to provide commuter rail service to Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville when it opens in September 2008. It is the first commuter rail line in Oregon, and among a handful of suburb-to-suburb commuter lines in the country. When complete it will connect to the Beaverton Transit Center with nearly a dozen bus lines, and MAX Blue and Red lines as well as bus service at each station.
