Light rail construction to interrupt MAX Red Line this weekend

Gateway to Airport service impacted Dec. 6 & 7

I-205/Portland Mall Light Rail construction will interrupt MAX Red line service this weekend. MAX Red Line will not run between Gateway/NE 99th Ave Transit Center (TC) and Portland International Airport (PDX) stations from the start of the service day on Saturday, Dec. 6 to the end of service on Sunday, Dec. 7.

Crews will be preparing a new signal system for the I-205/Portland Mall Light Rail Project.

Transit options

  • Four closed stations are Parkrose/Sumner TC, Cascades, Mt Hood Ave and PDX.
  • There will be an "Express" bus that will travel directly between Gateway TC and PDX; riders should add an extra 5-10 minutes for travel time.
  • Buses will shuttle riders between Gateway TC and PDX, stopping at each of the four closed stations; riders should add an extra 10-15 minutes for travel time.
  • Red Line trains will run only between Beaverton TC and Gateway TC.

For trip planning assistance, visit trimet.org or call 503-238-RIDE weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

About the project

TriMet's 8.3-mile MAX line will add light rail between Gateway Transit Center and Clackamas Town Center, and to 5th and 6th avenues in downtown Portland between Union Station and Portland State University (PSU). It is the fifth light rail line and the first light rail extension into Clackamas County. It will serve the heart of downtown Portland and the busiest transit destination in the TriMet system - PSU. When it opens in September 2009, it will help revitalize the Mall and poise the region for future rail extensions.
