Commuter rail construction impacts traffic on SW Farmington & Lombard

Intersection reconstruction work May 21-June 12

Washington County commuter rail construction will impact traffic on SW Farmington Rd and SW Lombard Ave starting Wednesday, May 21.

  • Crews will close one lane in each direction on Farmington to reconstruct the intersection and make pedestrian and vehicle safety improvements.
  • Southbound traffic on Lombard will be closed between Broadway and Farmington. All traffic on Lombard will be detoured.

The work will take place weekdays 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is expected to last until Wednesday, June 4. Flaggers will direct traffic through construction and motorists can expect minor delays.

Crews will demolish the older street surface and sidewalks, and create a new concrete street surface, as well as new sidewalks and curbs. New pedestrian crossings and permanent signals and striping will also be installed.

About the project

Washington County Commuter Rail, which will be known as WES or Westside Express Service, will use existing freight tracks to provide commuter rail service to Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville when it opens in fall 2008. WES is the first commuter rail line in Oregon, and among a handful of suburb-to-suburb commuter lines in the country. When complete it will connect to the Beaverton Transit Center with nearly a dozen bus lines, and MAX Blue and Red lines as well as bus service at each station.
