Streetcar construction impacts MAX service April 23-24
April 20, 2011
MAX Blue, Green and Red line service interrupted; riders can take shuttle buses, walk or bike around disruption
TriMet's Convention Center and NE 7th Ave MAX stations will be closed to trains the weekend of April 23 as crews interconnect Portland Streetcar tracks with existing MAX tracks. The stations will be closed Saturday, April 23, through the end of service Sunday, April 24.
Regular service will resume Monday, April 25.
Travel options
Direct shuttle buses: Riders can take a shuttle bus directly to and from the Rose Quarter Transit Center and Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave MAX stations. Shuttles will run frequently, every 3 to 7 minutes. The Convention Center and NE 7th Ave MAX stations will not be served.
Walk: Sidewalks will remain open all weekend so walking between stations is an alternative. The distance between the Rose Quarter Transit Center and the Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave MAX stations is approximately six blocks, and walking will take 5 to 10 minutes.
Bike: Riding a bike between stations is also an option. Bicyclists should use designated bike lanes and exercise caution when crossing intersections and train tracks.
MAX service
Travel to Portland International Airport: The last Red Line train to the airport will leave Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, and Sunday, April 24. Riders should allow 30 extra minutes of travel time to PDX.
Travel on the Portland Transit Mall: MAX Green Line trains will not serve Portland Transit Mall stops during the service interruption. Yellow Line trains will continue to serve 5th and 6th avenues downtown throughout the weekend. Green Line riders headed east should board a Yellow Line train and transfer to shuttles buses at Rose Quarter TC.
Rose Quarter events
There are several events at the Rose Garden Arena during the weekend. The Blazers have a playoff game Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m. The Portland Winterhawks play Sunday, April 24, at 5 p.m. Riders traveling to and from the Rose Quarter for these events should plan ahead.
Plan ahead
TriMet staff will be available to help keep riders moving during the interruption, but riders should expect delays. Riders should plan ahead and allow for extra time.
