February 1 Fare Mission
The media was invited to join TriMet’s fare enforcement team on a mission at the NE 82nd Ave. MAX station on Feb. 1 from 8-9 a.m. The team, along with Transit Police Officers, wrote 41 citations, issued 3 warnings and 5 exclusions and arrested one person who had already been excluded from the system.
December Fare Enforcement Report
TriMet's latest fare enforcement figures for December 2011, show a 10-fold increase in citations compared to December 2010. Since mid-July, TriMet shifted to fare enforcement over education when checking fares. Riders without a valid fare face a $175 citation or an exclusion up to 90 days.
When TriMet moved to a stronger stand on fare enforcement, six new supervisors were hired bringing the fare inspection team to an equivalent of 18 full-time fare enforcers. The dedicated fare inspection team is augmented by all other supervisors spending an hour a day checking fares.
