January ridership report with MAX and WES rides increasing

Real time arrival info tops 2 million requests in a month

There were 8 million trips taken on buses, MAX and WES in January 2011, down 0.9 percent from January 2010. MAX and WES Commuter Rail trips increased, bus trips declined. All figures below are compared to January 2010.

Bus, MAX & WES

  • Weekly trips were 1,903,650, down 1 percent
  • Weekday trips were 318,300, down 1 percent
  • Weekend trips were 312,100, down 0.7 percent

Bus

  • Weekly bus trips were 1,145,900, down 4.5 percent
  • Weekday bus trips were 194,700, down 4.4 percent
  • Weekend bus trips were 172,400, down 5 percent

MAX

  • Weekly MAX trips were 750,850, up 4.8 percent
  • Weekday MAX trips were 122,200, up 4.7 percent
  • Weekend MAX trips were 139,700, up 5.2 percent

MAX Green Line

  • Weekday trips averaged 21,500, up 18.8 percent
  • Weekend trips averaged 23,400, up 13.6 percent

WES

  • Weekly WES trips totaled 6,900, up 12.2 percent
  • Weekday/rush hour trips were 1,380, up 12.2 percent

Performance Dashboard now online

As announced last month, TriMet has developed a dashboard to track key indicators and is available at trimet.org/dashboard. The dashboard is updated monthly and includes a snapshot of ridership, cost per ride, on-time performance and revenues. It will help the agency identify trends and measure efficiency and effectiveness. The dashboard is expected to expand to report other key performance measures. View dashboard

TransitTracker – more than 2 million requests a month

For the first time, more than two million requests for arrival information were received in January. TransitTracker real time info is available for all 7,000 bus stops and 85 MAX stations. Check TransitTracker online, by mobile device or by calling 503-238-RIDE (7433) and entering the stop ID number.
