Summer bus and MAX service changes effective June 5

June 3, 2011

Effective Sunday, June 5, TriMet is implementing seasonal service adjustments to maintain reliability, match capacity with demand and to implement service improvements. Many changes involve adjusting schedules by up to 15 minutes. Riders will see the same frequency, but the schedule of when buses will arrive will change.

TriMet made the adjustments to improve reliability by decreasing time between trips and to increase efficiency by adjusting for low ridership on a particular trip, discontinuing extra trips added for school or adjusting times for slight changes in routes due to construction or other changes.

Riders should check new schedules online at trimet.org or pick up new printed schedules.

Schedule changes for reliability

Line 12-Barbur/Sandy Blvd: Weekday, Saturday and Sunday schedules will be improved to provide more reliable service. Some trip times will change by up to 10 minutes so buses run closer to their scheduled times, but the total number of trips served will not change.

70-12th Ave: Some weekday times will be adjusted by up to 12 minutes to increase service reliability.

75-Lombard/39th (Cesar Chavez): Weekday, Saturday and Sunday schedules will be improved to provide more reliable service. Some trip times will change by up to six minutes, but the total number of trips served will not change.

Service changes due to ridership

MAX Mall Shuttle: With Green and Yellow lines providing frequent service on 5th and 6th avenues, the MAX Mall Shuttle will be discontinued.

Line 43-Taylors Ferry Rd: Due to low ridership, service between Washington Square Transit Center and SW Stratus & Nimbus will be discontinued.

70-12th Ave: Six weekday trips between SE Portland and Milwaukie will be discontinued due to low ridership. The last weekday trip to Milwaukie will leave Rose Quarter at 10:30 p.m. and the last trip weekday trip to Portland will leave SE Jackson & Main at 10:01 p.m.

Extra buses added into the schedules to accommodate increased ridership during the school year will be discontinued:

  • 52-Farmington/185th: The trip to Willow Creek Transit Center that leaves NW 185th & West Union at 2:35 p.m. will be discontinued for the summer.
  • 66-Marquam Hill/Hollywood: The trip to Hollywood Transit Center that leaves SE Powell & Milwaukie 3:19 p.m. will be discontinued for the summer.
  • 71-60th/122nd Ave: The trip to Parkrose/Sumner Transit Center that leaves the NE 60th Ave MAX overpass at 3:37 p.m. will be discontinued for the summer.

Stop and route adjustments

Lines 77-Broadway/Halsey, 80-Kane/Troutdale Rd and 81-Kane/257th: Route and trip time changed to improve operations and safety at Glenn Otto Park.

Construction

Construction will affect one high-ridership line during the summer:

  • 15-Belmont/NW 23rd: Construction will close the westbound lane of the Morrison Bridge for the summer. Line 15 buses to NW 23rd will be detoured onto the Hawthorne Bridge. On the eastside, three stops between SE 8th Ave and the Morrison Bridge will close. Two supplemental westbound stops, one on Madison at Grand and one on the Hawthorne Bridge will be served. In downtown Portland, Line 15 will not serve eastbound stops along SW 2nd Avenue, but will continue to serve regular stops on Washington. An additional stop will be served on Main at SW 2nd Avenue.
