Record ridership during April

Highest weekly ridership since 2008; WES increases 28 percent

 

There were nearly 8.7 million trips taken on buses, MAX and WES last month, up 2.2 percent from April 2010. Overall weekly ridership was above 2 million for the first time since October 2008, when reports of a global recession first started to sink in. WES and MAX trips reached record highs; bus trips were nearly flat, which is an improvement over the past two years. All figures below are compared with April 2010.

Bus, MAX and WES

  • Weekly trips were 2,037,550 up 3.6 percent
  • Weekday trips were 335,300, up 3.8 percent
  • Weekend trips were 360,900, up 2.6 percent
  • Rush hour trips were 105,700, up 3.5 percent

Bus

  • Weekly bus trips were 1,197,400, down 0.3 percent
  • Weekday bus trips were 201,600, down 0.3 percent
  • Weekend bus trips were 189,400, down 0.5 percent
  • Rush hour bus trips were 65,500, down 0.5 percent

MAX

  • Weekly MAX trips were 832,100, up 9.6 percent
  • Weekday MAX trips were 132,100, up 10.5 percent
  • Weekend MAX trips were 171,500, up 6.3 percent
  • Rush hour MAX trips were 38,600, up 10 percent

MAX Green Line

  • Weekday trips averaged 23,200, up 18.4 percent
  • Weekend trips averaged 24,800, up 0.4 percent

WES

  • Weekday/rush hour trips were 1,610, up 27.8 percent
  • Weekly WES trips totaled 8,050, up 27.8 percent
