Light rail construction to interrupt MAX this Sunday

Rose Quarter to PGE Park service impacted

I-205/Portland Mall Light Rail construction will interrupt downtown MAX service on Sunday, May 18. MAX Blue, Red and Yellow lines will not run between Rose Quarter Transit Center (TC) and PGE Park Station from the beginning of service until approximately 10 a.m. as crews install new overhead wire.

Riders can board shuttle buses at Rose Quarter TC and PGE Park that will stop near each closed downtown station. Buses will shuttle riders between the 11 stations; riders should add an extra 10-15 minutes for travel time.

MAX Blue Line

Westside Blue Line trains will serve stations between Hillsboro and PGE Park. Eastside Blue Line trains will serve stations between Gresham and Rose Quarter.

MAX Red Line

Eastside Red Line trains will serve stations between Portland International Airport (PDX) and Rose Quarter TC. Westside Red Line trains will serve stations between Beaverton TC and PGE Park.

Westside riders traveling to PDX can board a shuttle bus at PGE Park traveling directly to the Rose Quarter TC and then board a Red Line train to the airport.

MAX Yellow Line

Yellow Line trains will not run west of the Willamette River and will serve stations between Expo Center and Interstate/Rose Quarter. After serving Interstate/Rose Quarter, trains will travel east to Rose Quarter TC.

For service to downtown, Yellow Line riders may transfer to a shuttle bus, or a regular service bus, at Rose Quarter TC. For service leaving downtown Portland, catch a shuttle bus near any closed MAX station, then transfer to Yellow Line trains at Rose Quarter TC.

Portland Streetcar

Portland Streetcar will not begin running until about 10 a.m. Shuttle buses will serve all Streetcar stops except PSU Urban Center, SW Park & Mill and SW 10th & Clay.

About the project

TriMet's fifth MAX line will add light rail to 5th and 6th avenues in downtown Portland between Union Station and Portland State University (PSU), and between Gateway Transit Center and Clackamas Town Center. It is the first light rail extension into Clackamas County, it will serve the heart of downtown Portland and the busiest transit destination in the TriMet system - PSU. When it opens in September 2009, it will help revitalize the Mall and poise the region for future rail extensions.
