TriMet's Night Stop program keeps riders safe

Get dropped off closer to your destination

Daylight-saving time ends on Sunday, November 1, and with darkness coming earlier, it's a good time to remember TriMet's Night Stop program. Riders can get off anywhere on a bus route between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., instead of only at designated stops. The Night Stop program started in December 1992.

Night Stop guidelines

  • Let the operator know where you want to stop a block or two ahead of your destination and the operator will choose the safest spot for the rider and the bus near the requested location.
  • Available anywhere outside Portland City Center and the Lloyd District between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Covers drop offs only; riders still need to board at designated stops.

Be seen & be safe

Riders may be hard to see after dark and can take steps to increase their visibility:

  • Wave as the bus approaches.
  • Wave a reflector, safety strobe or small flashlight to alert the driver when your bus approaches. Some third-party mobile device applications have a strobe or light feature for this purpose.
