TriMet offers free bike parking at Beaverton for a day

September 22, 2011

First 15 people get free BikeLink cards

TriMet will host an open house at the Beaverton Transit Center Bike & Ride on Tuesday, Sept. 27. All cyclists that use the Bike & Ride that day will be able to park for free, and the first 15 people to arrive by bike will receive a free BikeLink card.

TriMet's largest Bike & Ride provides covered parking for 100 bikes at the transit center, with 74 spaces included in a secure facility. A BikeLink card is needed to access the secure area of the enclosed parking facility.

TriMet staff will be at the transit center from 7 to 10 a.m. and again from 4 to 7 p.m. to assist people who drop off and pick up their bikes. In the evening, the Bicycle Transportation Alliance will set up a service station, and Bike n' Hike will be available to service bikes.

Beaverton Bike & Ride

Beaverton Transit Center is the busiest transit center for bike access, with about 12 percent of MAX riders accessing it by bike. With limited space to bring a bike onboard, especially during rush hour, the Bike & Ride gives riders a secure place to park their bike and then board the train.

Accessing the secure Bike & Ride

The enclosed Bike & Ride requires a BikeLink card to enter; riders lock their bikes inside using their own bike lock. The $20 BikeLink card works like a parking meter: 3 cents is deducted for each hour the bike is parked (only 1 cent on evenings and weekends). It works out to 30 cents for a day or $3 if the bike is left for the whole week. A one-time fee of $5 is charged to verify the customer's ID. Cards can be bought at the Bike Gallery Beaverton location, the Coffee Break at the transit center, the TriMet Ticket Office at Pioneer Courthouse Square and other retail locations. BikeLink cards can also be purchased online at www.bikelink.org. Visit trimet.org/bikeandride for more information.
