Streetcar construction impacts MAX service
September 22, 2011
MAX Blue, Green and Red lines interrupted Sept. 25, Oct. 2
TriMet's Convention Center and NE 7th Ave MAX stations will be closed to trains Sunday, Sept. 25, and again on Sunday, Oct. 2, as crews install overhead electrical connections for the Portland Streetcar that intersect with the MAX electrical system.
Service will be affected throughout the service day on those Sundays until the last train. Regular service is to resume the following Mondays.
Riders should expect delays and plan for extra time to make their trips.
Travel options
Customers can walk, bike or take shuttle buses to available MAX service.
Shuttle buses: Riders can take a shuttle bus directly to and from Rose Quarter Transit Center and Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave MAX stations. Shuttles will run frequently, every 5 to 7 minutes. The Convention Center and NE 7th Ave MAX stations will not be served.
Walk: Sidewalks will remain open all weekend. The walk between the Rose Quarter Transit Center and the Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave MAX stations is about six blocks.
Bike: Riding a bike between stations is also an option. Bicyclists should use designated bike lanes and exercise caution when crossing intersections and train tracks.
MAX service
MAX Blue, Green and Red lines are affected. Yellow lines are not.
Travel to Portland International Airport: The last Red Line train to the airport is scheduled to leave Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, but riders should allow at least 30 extra minutes of travel time to the airport. Anyone headed to the airport from the west should catch the first eastbound train to the Rose Quarter and take a shuttle bus to Lloyd Center to catch a Red Line train.
Travel on the Portland Transit Mall: MAX Green Line trains will not serve Portland Transit Mall stops during the service interruption. Yellow Line trains will continue to serve 5th and 6th avenues downtown. Green Line riders headed east should board a Yellow Line train and transfer to shuttles buses at Rose Quarter TC.
Plan ahead
Riders should plan ahead and allow for extra time, and expect some delays. Visit trimet.org or call 503-238-RIDE (7433) weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
