Sunset Transit Center Bike & Ride
Updated July 29, 2009
TriMet's first Bike & Ride opened July 29 at Sunset Transit Center, providing secure parking for 74 bikes and helping more people make connections to buses and MAX. This new bike parking facility was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Sunset Transit Center is one of the most popular stations for riders connecting by bike, as the West Hills are a barrier to riding downtown. The Bike & Ride is accessible by keycard and has a security camera. Users will pay for secure parking time just like at a parking meter.
The future 100-space Beaverton Transit Center Bike & Ride and the renovated 30-space Gresham Central Transit Center facility will be the first of a planned regional Bike & Ride system. $1.4 million in ARRA stimulus funds make possible the three Bike & Ride facilities, along with replacement of 96 bike lockers and new key access on 78 others, giving the region 378 new or improved bike parking spaces.
Work on the Bike & Ride
Aadland Evans Constructors Inc was the prime contractor for the construction with subcontractors Columbia Cascade, Affordable Electric and BikeLink. The design phase of the project was completed by Moyano Leadership Group, Boora Architects and Alta Planning + Design.
Federal stimulus funds created two jobs and retained 15 others with the contractor and subcontractors working on the Sunset Transit Center Bike & Ride project.
