Tigard TC Flooding Repairs

Stimulus funds paid for replacement of a root-bound storm drain at Tigard Transit Center

Tigard Transit Center repair work

In June, crews replaced a root-bound storm
drain that was causing flooding at Tigard
Transit Center.

TriMet used federal stimulus funds to repair a flooding problem at the Tigard Transit Center by removing a root-bound storm drain.

Work on the project began June 1 and ended June 9, 2009. Federal stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provided jobs for eight full-time and three part-time contractors from Ortiz & Associates of Sandy, and K&R Plumbing Construction Company, Inc., of Clackamas.

Over the past few winters, the storm drain has repeatedly clogged, causing water backup and overflow throughout the transit center. Despite maintenance to clear the storm drain, the repeated overflowing has disrupted bus and car traffic and caused damage.

Workers replaced about 420 feet of root-bound drainpipe affecting the entire bus bay area. The distressed pipe was removed through a pipe bursting process, allowing for minimal disruption to bus service at the transit center.
