Bus Service Cut Criteria

We looked at ridership levels and availability of alternative service nearby

In developing our September 2009 service cut proposal, we analyzed ridership levels, access to school/jobs, transit equity issues and the availability of alternative service nearby. Since we released our draft service cut proposal in February, we also considered more than 2,100 comments and suggestions from riders, community groups, students, civic leaders and TriMet operators.

Two of the bus lines that are being discontinued (86-Alderwood and 153-South End Rd Loop) are historically low-ridership routes, meaning they have fewer than 15 boarding rides per vehicle hour, compared with a system average of 35. The other two lines (41-Tacoma and 74-Lloyd District/Southeast) have alternative service nearby.
