Changes to fares and service take effect in September
There's a lot happening this September. Here's what you need to know: Fare zones are going away (hooray!), but that also means no more Free Rail Zone downtown. Most fares will increase and a "go-anywhere" Adult ticket will cost $2.50. Honored Citizen tickets will stay at $1, and Youth tickets will cost $1.65. 1-Day Passes will cost the same as two tickets—a great value and convenient for both round trips and all-day travel. And finally, schedules and/or routes will change on 29 bus lines. (While some low-ridership trips will be cut, we're also adding trips on 7 lines to help alleviate crowding.)

VIDEO: Avoid close calls like these
That was close! This recent footage shot from the front of a WES Commuter Rail train shows how important it is to obey signs and signals and look both ways before crossing MAX or WES tracks. Trains may be running on any track, at any time, in either direction. And never, ever run to beat a train.

Riders took 102 million trips in the last year (a new record!)
Yeah, transit is a big deal here. We just reached a new ridership milestone: For the first time in our 43-year history, riders took more than 102 million trips on buses, MAX Light Rail and WES Commuter Rail. That’s a 2.2% ridership increase during Fiscal Year 2012 (July 2011-June 2012) compared to the previous year. Trips on buses and MAX were up 2.4% and 2%, respectively, while WES rose 12.8%. Way to go, riders!
