TriMet Final Budget and Service Proposal for
Fiscal 2013

After six months of extensive public outreach, we've prepared a Recommended Plan for our Board of Directors to address an expected $12-17 million shortfall in our next budget year. We met with more than 5,100 people at dozens of community meetings and other venues, including riding affected bus lines to get feedback from riders. In all, we received 16,000 comments on our proposed changes to fares and service, which helped shape this plan. While it calls for $12 million in cost-saving and revenue-generating measures, we have designed the plan to minimize cuts to service and the overall impact to riders.

The recommended plan would take effect September 2012. You can read it in detail at trimet.org/choices.
May is National Bike Month

There's no better time to jump on your bike. Riding your bike for work, errands and recreation is a great way to get to your destination, plus get your exercise too.

Here are a few tips to help get you—and your friends and family—rolling.
Happy Bike Month

Get a tune-up at your local bike shop.
Before heading out, perform a safety check.
Wear a helmet and bright clothing. The Bicycle Transportation Alliance has tips for safe riding.
If it's been a while, build up with short trips and ride at an easy pace.
If you're packing clothes, try rolling them to reduce wrinkles.
Lock your bike securely using one of the methods below.

 Lock up smart!
How many modes can you pack into a single itinerary?

Now you can walk, bike and take transit. It's easy using our Regional Trip Planner. It allows you to plan your trip using the safest, flattest or quickest criteria.

Since its launch in October, folks have planned over 15,000 trips, with about 50 to 100 people a day visiting the site from as far away as Athens, Greece and Lisbon, Portugal. That's pretty cool!

Try it and let us know what you think.
New buses are on their way

The first of 55 new TriMet buses are set to arrive early summer. The buses are the first fleet purchase in three years and mark the return of an annual bus purchase program to refresh the fleet, of which 93% are funded by grants.

WES numbers continue to rise

WES ridership continued its increasing ridership, up over 3% to 7,850 weekly trips. We recently hopped on board a WES train to meet some of our riders. There were more than enough smiles to go around on this train!

Check out pictures from our WES rider photo shoot.
