We are upgrading bus service on Tualatin Valley (TV) Highway to TriMet FX®–Frequent Express. This will bring faster travel times, more comfortable bus waiting areas, plus safety and accessibility improvements, to the corridor.

Better Transit on TV Highway

  • TriMet FX-branded buses with all-door boarding for quicker stops.
  • Faster travel times with buses arriving every 12 minutes most of the day.
  • Transit Signal Priority to improve reliability and help keep buses moving through traffic.
  • Bus stations located near striped and signalized crossings, with shelters, seating, lighting and TransitTracker™ real-time arrival information.
  • Upgraded intersections at key locations to accommodate bus pullouts and create more space between bus stations and railroad tracks.
  • Better access to local and regional destinations through connections to two MAX lines, 10 TriMet bus lines, Ride Connection and other regional bus services.

The TV Highway Transit & Safety Project aims to deliver TriMet FX®–Frequent Express bus service for the Tualatin Valley Highway corridor. The corridor is currently served by TriMet’s Line 57-TV Hwy/Forest Grove, Washington County’s highest ridership bus line with about 40,000 weekly trips. Use of existing bus service requires significantly more travel time than driving, and communities along the corridor have long expressed concerns about safety on this high-crash roadway.

TriMet FX service speeds up travel times, creates more comfortable waiting areas and improves how riders access public transit throughout the region. As part of the TV Highway Transit & Safety Project, FX service will help create safe, reliable transit connections to the places riders want to go: work, school, recreational and regional destinations, and essential community services.

In early 2025, the project's Steering Committee recommended a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) that identified the project's mode, route, and preliminary station locations. The LPA has been endorsed by all local and regional governments along the corridor, and TriMet has received approval from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to enter the Project Development (PD) phase. Metro will lead the federally required National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process to evaluate the project's potential environmental impacts before construction begins. Following completion of this phase, partners will pursue a Federal Transit Administration Capital Investment Grant, which will be matched with regional and local funding.

TV Highway Transit and Safety Project construction is expected to begin in spring 2028. Service is expected to begin in fall 2030.
